A SIM card offer that promises “unlimited WhatsApp” can be difficult to evaluate unless you separate two things: the phone number used to register a WhatsApp account and the mobile data or Wi-Fi connection used by the app. WhatsApp’s official Help Center says an account is verified with an active phone number that can receive a code by SMS or call. After setup, the app uses an internet connection. A mobile carrier’s plan may have its own data limits, charges, or promotional terms.
Your account is linked to a verified number
WhatsApp explains that an account can be verified with one registered phone number and is not tied to a particular SIM slot. On a dual-SIM phone or a phone using eSIM, the account uses the number you verified. Replacing or removing the physical SIM does not automatically sign you out, but WhatsApp says you need an active SIM or eSIM with the registered number to maintain access to the account and receive verification if needed. Do not rely on access to a number you do not own or control.
Understand setup and carrier charges
To register, use the latest official WhatsApp app, enter your number in international format, and receive the verification code through a supported method. WhatsApp notes that SMS or call charges may depend on your carrier. A working Wi-Fi connection can help with app use, but registration still requires an eligible phone number and the ability to receive the code. Never share that code with another person; it grants access to your account.

Once you are signed in, messages and calls need internet connectivity. If you use mobile data, ask your operator how app traffic is counted under the specific plan, including any fair-use or roaming terms. A marketing phrase such as “unlimited” may refer only to a certain feature, duration, or eligible recharge. Read the carrier’s terms in its official app or website, and keep a copy of the offer before paying.
Changing your number or SIM
If you move to a new phone number and want to keep account information, use WhatsApp’s Change Number process before giving up the old number. WhatsApp says the feature transfers account information and settings to the new number and removes the account associated with the old one. Make a fresh chat backup after changing the number because backups are associated with the number used when they were created. Tell important contacts about the change so they can update their address books.
Be cautious with limited-time bundles
The 2015 article described a promotional SIM offer that may no longer exist. Do not treat its price, availability, or data allowance as current. Before buying a bundle, verify the provider, eligible country, activation requirements, validity period, renewal price, data cap, and cancellation or refund rules. If a reseller asks for your WhatsApp verification code or account password, stop; a legitimate data plan does not need your account code.
For account setup and number changes, rely on WhatsApp’s official Help Center. For costs and coverage, check your mobile operator’s current terms. The two services work together, but neither one makes a past promotional claim valid today.
