How to Record Your Screen on an Android Phone

Most recent Android phones include a built-in screen recorder, although the feature and its location vary by manufacturer and Android version. Before recording, close private notifications and remember that some apps prevent screen capture for security or copyright reasons. Do not try to bypass those restrictions.

Find Screen recorder in Quick Settings

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen twice to open the full Quick Settings panel.
  2. Look for Screen recorder. If it is missing, tap Edit and add the tile if your phone offers it.
  3. Tap the tile and choose the available recording options, such as device audio, microphone audio or showing screen touches.
  4. Tap Start and wait for the countdown before demonstrating the steps you want to capture.
  5. When finished, swipe down and tap the screen-recording notification or stop control.

Google documents this flow for supported Android devices. Some phones use a different path or include separate audio controls, so consult the phone maker’s support guide if the tile is missing.

Find and review the recording

Open Photos, Gallery or your phone’s file manager and look in the Movies, Screen recordings or a similarly named folder. Play the video before sharing it. Trim out the start and end if needed, and check that the audio is understandable and does not expose messages, account details or location information.

If the recorder is unavailable

Check whether your phone and Android version include the feature, install system updates from Settings and restart the device. A work-managed phone may restrict recording, and some protected screens appear blank in recordings by design. Avoid installing an unknown recorder APK or granting accessibility access to an app that does not need it.

For a tutorial, keep the recording focused and narrate only what viewers need. If you capture another person’s information or a private conversation, get permission before sharing it. Screen recording can consume storage quickly, so check available space before a long capture and delete the file only after keeping any copy you need.
